Ms. Holt: My jump to teaching

Since we last spoke, I am not longer planning weddings day and night. I made a career switch, and jumped into the world of education.

When I was in college I figured out that I wanted to be two things: a teacher and a wedding planner. I had NO idea what that looked like or if it would even be possible. After graduation, I received an amazing opportunity to move to Dallas and work for an amazing wedding planning company where I learned more than I could even begin to tell you. But something just didn't seem right. I wasn't being challenged or fulfilled the way I thought I would be in my career path. So, after much prayer and research, I started my trek to becoming a teacher a little sooner than expected.

For the last 8 months, I have been working in a small, Private Kindergarten classroom at a Preschool in Garland. I cannot tell you how much I have grown over the last few months. I have been challenged physically, mentally and emotionally. I have learned to be patient when I'm restless, enthusiastic when I'm exhausted and optimistic when I feel down.

Teaching has been hands-down the hardest thing I have ever done, yet I feel like it is exactly where I am supposed to be.

A lot of people look shocked or puzzled when I tell them that I left a career in wedding planning for teaching, but for me, it makes sense. I don't doubt that I will continue to plan weddings (which I am still doing for my friends and friends of friends) but education is a field that I feel called to. And for now, I am staying put.

Thank you for all of your encouragement and support over the last year. Currently, I am beginning to substitute full time to (hopefully) secure a full-time teaching position in a public school. Another phase complete and I am SOOOO looking forward to the next!

have i mentioned that i love my birthday?

Okay, here's the thing: I love my birthday.

Like, a lot.

Call me self-centered, I just love everything about one whole day being all about me. It's my special day, and I make sure everyone knows it. Sue me.

To credit myself, it's not just MY birthday that I love so dearly. I love celebrating other people on their special days too! Birthdays are fun. And mine is the funnest.

On my last birthday, my wonderful (and observant) friends went above and beyond by throwing me a little surprise shindig a week before my b-day. I had NO clue and was super surprised! We went to dinner at one of my favorite restaurants and ended the night bowling, one of my favorite "sports" activities.

I'm beyond blessed to have friends who humor me enough to celebrate me with a surprise party AND show up for a birthday dinner on my actual birthday. I hit the friends jackpot, y'all.

My sweet mom also came in town to visit me just for the morning to treat me to breakfast and manicure. She. Is. An. Angel.

All in all, I had a fabulous day being loved on and pampered by all of those I hold dear.

Bring it on, 24.

Since you last heard from me...

Oh. My. Goodness.

I remember when there was a time I used to update this sweet little blog-o-mine... SO much has happened in the last 8 months while my little section of the www sat idle and collected dust. Humor me as I begin to re-live some of the fun memories I've had and also bear with me as I rant and rave about this topic or that topic that seemed to make some sort of an impression.

Here's to blogging! It's good to be back.

Yes, I realize I write as if I am talking to a large audience scattered all over the greater United States, but I am aware, Mom, that you are my only loyal follower. Shout out!
